NDIS
What is NDIS
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provides funding to eligible people with disability to achieve greater independence, spend more time with family and friends, access new skills, find work or volunteer opportunities, and improve their overall quality of life.
The NDIS also connects people with disability to local services in their communities — including doctors, sporting clubs, schools, libraries, and support groups — and provides information about state and territory government support services.
The NDIS now supports over 500,000 Australians with disability to access the services and supports they need.
Kentish Brief History
Established in 1994, Kentish began as a small childcare provider in the Northern Territory. Over the years, Kentish has grown into a respected not-for-profit organisation committed to delivering high-quality community services across the Top End. With deep roots in the Territory, we have evolved to meet the needs of the communities we serve — from early learning and family day care to out-of-home care and now, NDIS services.

1. Support Coordination
At Kentish, we are committed to helping you make the most of your NDIS plan through dedicated Support Coordination services. We are here to assist you in navigating the complexities of the NDIS, building your capacity, and achieving your personal goals with confidence and clarity.
What is Support Coordination?
Support Coordination is a capacity building support that helps you:
- Understand and use your NDIS plan effectively
- Connect with NDIS providers, community organisations, mainstream, and government services
- Strengthen your ability to manage and coordinate your supports independently
Support Coordination is delivered by trained professionals—Support Coordinators or Specialist Support Coordinators—depending on your level of need.
Types of Support Coordination
There are three levels of support coordination that may be included in your NDIS plan:
- Support Connection
Focuses on helping you establish connections with informal, community, and funded supports, empowering you to implement your plan and pursue your goals. - Support Coordination (Level 2)
Assists you in developing the skills needed to understand and use your plan. Your Support Coordinator will work with you to:
– Coordinate a mix of supports
– Build your capacity to maintain relationships
– Manage service delivery
– Increase independence and inclusion within the community
- Specialist Support Coordination (Level 3)
Designed for participants with more complex needs. A Specialist Support Coordinator provides high-level support to manage challenges in your support environment and ensure consistent and reliable service delivery.
Kentish currently offers Level 1 (Support Connection) and Level 2 (Support Coordination) services.
What Does a Kentish Support Coordinator Do?
Your Kentish Support Coordinator will work alongside you to:
- Implement and maximise the use of your funded supports
- Connect you with community, mainstream and specialist services
- Negotiate with providers about service delivery and pricing
- Ensure that service agreements and service bookings are completed
- Build your capacity for choice, control, and independence
- Support you to participate in your community and live the life you choose
We also assist with preparing for plan reviews, ensuring you can demonstrate outcomes and advocate for the supports you need.
Ultimately, our goal is to optimise your plan, so you get the best possible value from your NDIS funding and make informed decisions about your support journey.
2. Individualised Living Option (ILO)
At Kentish, we understand that your home should reflect your values, preferences, and aspirations. Our Individualised Living Option (ILO) services are designed to help you create a home life that suits your individual needs and supports your independence and wellbeing.
What is ILO?
Individualised Living Options (ILO) provide flexible, tailored support for people with disability to live in a way that works best for them.
ILO funding does not pay for a physical house, but it does fund the supports that help you live in your chosen environment—whether that’s with a host, housemates, or in your own home.
With ILO funding, you can:
- Explore different ways to live—such as with a supportive housemate or host
- Design and implement supports that meet your personal goals and lifestyle needs
ILO is all about creating a sustainable and safe home life that works for you.
Is ILO Right for You?
An Individualised Living Option might be suitable if:
- You are 18 years or older (or 17 and planning your future living arrangements)
- You need regular support at home (formal or informal) for at least 6 hours per day
- You are ready to explore your living preferences, including where, how, and with whom you want to live
- You’re willing to invest time and effort into co-designing your ideal home environment
ILO Services with Kentish
Kentish provides end-to-end support across the two key stages of the ILO process:
Stage 1: Exploration and Design
This is the first and most important step in your ILO journey. During this stage, Kentish will work with you and your support network to:
- Understand your preferred living arrangement, support needs, and goals
- Identify both funded and informal supports (such as assistance from friends, family, or community)
- Develop a detailed, personalised living arrangement plan
- Work with you to submit a formal ILO Service Proposal to the NDIA
You’ll be supported by a dedicated Exploration and Design Coordinator throughout the process.
This stage typically takes 3 months, ensuring enough time to explore all suitable options and make informed decisions.
Stage 2: Implementation and Ongoing Monitoring
Once your ILO Service Proposal is approved by the NDIA, Kentish will support you to:
- Implement your living arrangement and transition into your new home
- Establish and coordinate all necessary supports
- Conduct regular check-ins to ensure your home and supports continue to meet your needs
- Adjust your plan if your circumstances or preferences change
Kentish is committed to walking alongside you, offering guidance, care, and consistency throughout your ILO journey.
Let’s Get Started
ILO is more than a support model—it’s a step towards creating the life you want. Whether you’re just starting to explore your options or ready to implement a plan, Kentish is here to support you every step of the way.

3. Community Access, Social and Recreational Activities

This includes breaking down barriers, fostering inclusion, and empowering participants to engage in a wide range of experiences that support their personal goals and wellbeing.
At Kentish Community Services, we understand that community access goes beyond simply being present in public spaces. It encompasses building social connections, enjoying recreational and cultural experiences, pursuing learning opportunities, and creating a sense of identity, purpose, and belonging.
