Kentish Family Day Care

Family Day Care with Kentish is a high-quality, home-based early childhood education and care service – catering for children aged from 6 weeks through to 12 years

Family Day Care operates under the same National Quality Framework (NQF) as other forms of childcare, incorporating

  • National regulations
  • Quality and qualification standards

  • An assessment and ratings process

Parents are eligible for the Federal Government Child Care Benefit and Child Care Subsidy.

Our Northern Territory day care services are suitable for families seeking care and education in a small group setting. We are all about making things easier for families. While the bulk of our educators provide child care during business hours, a number of our educators can provide child care to work around parent’s shift work as well as irregular hours.

Becoming a Family Day Care Educator

Kentish is a children and community services provider with over 100 educators and 80 employees across the NT. We have offices in Palmerston, Katherine and Alice Springs. Kentish runs three long day care centres in Moulden, Katherine and Tennant Creek. Kentish also runs Family Day Care (FDC) services and Out-of-Home-Care (OOHC) services.

FDC is suitable for families seeking care and education in a small group setting and for those who require childcare around shift work or irregular hours. Over the COVID pandemic, FDC became very popular as it creates a smaller and safer social circle for children in care.  FDC also gives the children a more stable relationship as children get to be with the same educator until they reach school age.

Becoming an educator

As a FDC educator you will run your own business from home. You can have your own children as well as other children under your care. Since it is your own business, you can choose your clients, your opening hours and availability for weekends and overnight stays and set your own fees. FDC educators can take care of up to four children under the age of 5yo and three school-age children.

FDC operates under the same National Quality Framework (NQF). FDC parents are eligible for Federal Government Child Care subsidies, just like any other long day care arrangements. Kentish has an FDC coordinator who supports FDC educators. Kentish provides free trainings and programs, giving all educators opportunities to upskill, meet other educators and provide interesting activities for children.

Things to consider before becoming a Family Day Care educator

FDC educators will need minimum of Certificate III in Early Educator and Care or be willing to commence studies. As with any businesses, your business expenses are tax deductible, you may claim the cost to run the business such as educational materials, toys, maintenance, electricity, car, cleaning expenses and modifications to your home.
